Zomato announced yearly 10 Day ‘Period Leave’ for their women employees. There is great joy among the women employees in Zomato.

Period Leave’ for women employees:

On 8 August 2020, the founder of Zomato Mr. Deependra Goyal, delivers an email to his employees. In this email, he stated that Women have to see the face of periods every month. The most challenging part of the story is they can’t communicate about taking leave during their periods because of stigma, which had spread in India.
The Founder of Zomato Deepindra Goyal mentioned in his email that “At Zomato, we want to foster a culture of trust, truth, and acceptance.” It is true that Women face the menstruation cycle every month and should be accepted by the Indian Society. Indian people need to understand that it is a natural process. It’s a biological difference between men and women.

Mr. Deepindra Goyal also said that “There should not be any shame or stigma attached to applying for a Period Leave.” Indian women feel uncomfortable while they take a period leave. Due to the stigma spread in Society, women give reasons for leaving, such as ‘Stomach upset, Unwell today, weakness, etc.’

Indian women during periods:

A lot of blood gets lost during a menstrual period. In India, many women are not aware of the menstrual cycle, and it’s consequences if not treated hygienically. Many women use sand, leaves, and dirty used clothes during their periods. In India, women are not allow to enter the temples and kitchen while on their periods. A separate room is allot to the women to stay until she completes the menstrual cycle. They are not allow to do any rituals or touch anyone in the family, especially men. Indian Government needs to frame necessary laws to break the stereotype of Indians. People need to understand that it is a natural process and should not treat as a sign of dirt and impurity. Menstruation is the reason that only women can give birth to a child.

The Founder of Zomato mentioned in his email that “Any Unnecessary harassment or distasteful comments from men or women about the fact that you applied for a Period Leave, or that you are vocal about it, please report them to speak up @zomato.com- Our Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) team will quickly spring into action.”

Audit:

The last phase is to review the other facts and parameters of the company.
